Get Involved – Special Events/Forums
Special Events, Discussion Forums, and Networking Activities
- Special Events
- One-time speaking programs on specialized and/or advanced topics, designed to complement Education Committee programs
- Discussion Forums
- Facilitated discussions on practical challenges and/or current events
- May be member initiated and run
- Can be one time or set up as recurring meeting
- Supports benchmarking and collaboration around problem solving
- Designed as an avenue to exchange practices and ideas among the members
- Networking Activities
- Facilitated discussions on practical challenges and/or current events
- May be member initiated and run
What’s available to volunteers:
- Join the efforts to formalize the committee structure and elect committee leaders for 2008
- Become a committee leader
- Help set strategic direction and priorities
- Plan and organize a special event, discussion forum, or networking activity, helping the leader with specific tasks such as obtaining sponsors if applicable, scheduling, location (find it, book it, confirm it), invitations (working with MGTA office), registration at event, and food and beverage if applicable.
Flexibility and Opportunities:
- The special events, discussion forums, and networking activities are not mutually exclusive; they are listed separately mainly for descriptive purposes.
- There is nearly unlimited flexibility to mix and match the concepts to meet circumstances and desired results.
- There are opportunities to get involved and make a difference.
- Opportunities may be one-time or ongoing involvement, and are limited only by individual desire, initiative, and interest.
Time Required:
- Based on individual interest and commitment
- As much or as little as you are able to give
Annual Meeting
Needed: new chair and co-chair for 2009, 4–7 additional volunteers
Time commitment: 2–3 hours or event attendance
Responsibilities:
- Suggest, book, confirm, and follow up with entertainment
- Secure sponsors by calling new and previously-contacted companies (1–2 people, 2–3 hours)
- Secure door prizes by calling new and previously-contacted companies (1–2 people, 2–3 hours)
- Work at the event registration desk, assist winners of door prizes, and operate laptop computers (2–3 people, duration of event)

Annual Golf Outing
Needed: co-chair
Time commitment: 1–3 hours plus event attendance
Responsibilities:
- Secure golf shirt sponsor (1 person)
- Secure hole sponsors by calling new and previously-contacted companies and following up as needed (2–3 people, 1 hour)
- Secure door prizes by calling new and previously-contacted companies and following up as needed (2–3 people, 1 hour)
- Work at the event registration desk, announce hole winners, and distribute door prizes (3–4 people, duration of event)
