Export Basics: Deconstructing your Export through the lens of the SLI (Shipper’s Letter of Instructions)

This seminar will provide a comprehensive understanding of the data elements necessary to fill out a Shippers Letter of Instructions (SLI). The program will highlight each of the required pieces of information, where to find your answers and why it is important to understand your requirements for compliance and transportation instructions to your service provider. The agenda will highlight the key elements of knowing your products, knowing your customers, the government agencies that enforce regulations, Incoterms, Insurance and all required documentation. This seminar will provide the essentials to build a process and program for successful selling and shipping of your goods to other countries and markets. We will also host a panel of Export Experts at the end of the seminar to answer any of your specific questions concerning best practices.

Speakers

Heidi West has been the Director of Export Compliance with C.H. Robinson since November 2012. Prior to that, she held the same position with Phoenix International Freight Services Ltd., a privately owned freight forwarding company which was acquired by C.H. Robinson. Heidi was employed for twenty seven years by Phoenix International. During those years, she held positions in the air and ocean export operations/management departments, inside sales and customer service. The last fourteen years she concentrated her efforts in the export compliance and training arena. She recognized her passion and desire for international trade while studying and traveling abroad for a year, while achieving a Commerce degree in 1982. Since that time, she has been deeply involved in every aspect of export logistics. Her passion is found on the compliance side where she supports the global forwarding branches of C.H. Robinson, as well as enjoying educational outreach opportunities with US exporters. Heidi is based in the Kansas City, MO global forwarding branch office.

Janell Fannin is the Deputy Director of Export Compliance with C.H. Robinson. The Export Compliance group at C.H. Robinson invests greatly in educating and informing shippers to understand their responsibilities in an international transaction. Her diverse background ranges from warehousing, inventory control & purchasing with an international shipper to freight forwarding with an export compliance focus. Janell’s eighteen years of international industry experience provides a unique perspective for every facet of the international supply chain. Janell is based in the Chicago, IL global forwarding branch office.
