Program Description:

Join us November 7th for a workshop on Letters of Credit. This workshop is an interactive overview and will be presented by Cathy Peterson from CJ Peterson & Associates.

This program will be using at least two sample letters of credit.

Each participant will receive the presentation that is 20-30 pages long with supplemental handouts. There will not be electronic distribution.

For this event, the MGTA is partnering with the National Association of Credit Management North Central [NACM NC] and opening registration to all of their members.

  • Introduce the parties to a letter of credit, the flow of a letter of credit from quote to issuance by a foreign bank

  • Write-up an amendment to the letter of credit
  • Prepare a commercial invoice and draft for the letter of credit

Cathy Petersen

Cathy PetersenMs. Petersen is International Consultant and Principal of C J Petersen & Associates, LLC since 1992. She consults and instructs in the areas of Incoterms® rules, export and import documentation, free trade agreements, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S. classification, managing forwarders, brokers and carriers, and letters of credit. She conducts research on freight transportation.

Ms. Petersen has been a freight forwarder and an ocean carrier representative; she has served as an educator for a variety of colleges and universities here and abroad. She has been active in the international arena since 1980, which led to her appointment on the Minnesota District Export Council and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Advisory Committee Number 14. She holds both graduate and under-graduate degrees from Mankato State University. She is a Licensed Customs Broker, and she has the National Customs Brokers Forwarders Association of America Certified Customs Specialist designation.

Principal, C J Petersen & Associates, LLC, St. Paul, MN. Instructor and consultant on import-export trade compliance, documentation and regulations at national and international locations. She has conducted export and import process reviews as well as audits at firms large and small. Co-authored books on international trade including “Exporting: Regulations, Documentation, Procedures,” “Managing Forwarders, Brokers & Carriers in Your International Supply,” “U.S. Domestic Terms of Sale and Incoterms® 2010,” and “Letters of Credit in International Trade: A User’s Guide.” She has authored many published articles. She has conducted qualitative and quantitative research for State and Federal agencies related to international freight flows, origin and destination of products, and mode of shipment.
